IoT Device Privacy
Effective Date: January 1, 2026
1. Scope
This notice applies to all Smart Bay IoT hardware products, including smart home devices, wearables, sensors, and connected appliances.
2. Data Collection
IoT devices may collect:
- Device Telemetry — Operational status, battery level, connectivity status
- Sensor Data — Temperature, motion, light, humidity (device-dependent)
- Usage Data — Feature interactions, usage patterns, session duration
- Network Data — WiFi signal strength, bandwidth usage, connection logs
3. Local vs. Cloud Processing
Local Processing
Data processed entirely on the device includes:
- Real-time sensor readings
- Device control commands
- Local automation rules
- On-device AI inference (e.g., voice recognition)
Cloud Processing
Data sent to our cloud includes:
- Aggregated usage statistics
- Firmware update requests
- Remote control commands (when using the mobile app)
- Cross-device synchronization data
4. Data Minimization
We apply the principle of data minimization:
- Sensor data is processed locally whenever possible
- Only aggregated or anonymized data leaves the device
- Raw sensor data is never stored in the cloud
- You can disable cloud synchronization at any time
5. Home Network Privacy
- IoT devices communicate only with authorized endpoints
- All communications are encrypted (TLS 1.3)
- Devices do not scan or probe other devices on your network
- No data is shared with third-party advertisers
6. Device Disposal
When you dispose of an IoT device:
- Perform a factory reset through the companion app
- Remove the device from your Smart Bay account
- All locally stored data will be securely erased
- Cloud-stored data can be deleted on request
